Aaargh!

I arrived at RockCon 2008 early on Saturday morning to unload a number of items at the Silent Auction. Then, knowing how in the past that the auction usually doesn't end up paying sellers until a couple hours after is closes (actually took over 3 hours this time!), I decided to look for a game to spend some time at, or at least, a morning at. And I found it - "Spanish Gold"!
The mapboard and figures itself were amazing and even though I hadn't gamed in years, I quickly caught on to the "easy to learn" rules systems after swearing, however, to follow the "Pirates Code!"
It was a great time and with John T. running the show with help from another gentleman (sorry, forgot your name), our little boats of pirates, dogs, scalawags and what have you were headed for "El Muerte," the Island of Death.
There were some immediate problems on the far side of the board for a few players as they began fighting amongst themselves (fantastically entertaining! ... Shoot them! You're a Pirate! Shoot!). On my side of the board, it was a lot quieter. I was able to make landfall without incident and proceeded to do some searching on the outer isle. After that, hearing a large amount of shooing and skirmishing to my starboard quarter, I decided to avoid that area and cross a swiftly moving stream ahead of me with a small skiff I'd recovered beneath some underbrush. Noboby mentioned the island was teeming with crocodiles, in addition to, ghouls, skeletons, the Black Death and more. As Captain Gimp, I crossed the small stream with crewmember number two and after one attack by the gigantic crocs, they pulled back and disappeared. I dropped off number 2 and upon my return with number 1 discovered that the former was missing - vanished! We pulled back to the opposite side just to be attacked by some skeletons who weren't as tough as I thought they'd be.
The skeletons became preoccupied with some other items and realizing that the night was disappearing quickly, we boarded the skiff and went back across the small stream, this time without incident. After crossing we witnessed a small lizardish creature kill and devour another group's dog as well as 3 of his four crewmembers.
We located a small hobbit-like person armed with a club, who with no coercion whatsoever, joined our group. Seeing the lizardy-looking creature still walking around a small building, we took the opportunity to open fire on it and wounded it greatly. Before it could recover, we reloaded and fired again, killing the tiny beast that had just recently killed and consumed nearly an entire team of pirates (and their wolf-dog). We rushed towards the largest building on the island, undetected by the skeletal, ghoul-like creatures that were popping up everywhere, but before we were able to mount an assault on the final bastion, we'd run out of time and it was time to find out how everyone had faired.
Everyone had gotten at least 10 kills, gaining the glorious status of "PIRATE" and some had done it 2 or 3 times more. I had a great time and, sadly was unable to attend the evening game as I had to get back home to Wisconsin before my wife and kids excommunicated me from our home. I will gladly play this game again should it be offered and probably anything put on by the guys here at Battlefield Hobbies. They were fun, professional and entertaining! A good time was had by all. Thanks, Frank (Captain Gimp) Millard

Thanks for the marvelous feedack! We had a great time putting the games on. As you can tell by my later comments, the folks at RockCon always treat us right. Full games, enthusiastic players, and cake - who could ask for more.

We will be running a full slate of games at Little Wars in February so please check back on our website for the details.
